History

  In the 1950’s Laurence Helms came up with the idea of back lighting photographs after seeing a poorly lit photo in a beautiful frame.
       He started a company called Helms Products, in Grand Rapids, MI. They began producing framed backlit photographs, called Helmscenes. Most of the scenes were magnificant views of nature. People loved them, but the selection was limited.
     Until now most backlit photos have been used in commerical appilications or retail advertising. Imagine being at a museum and seeing something as awe inspiring as a backlit photo of the earth taken from space. Some museum light boxes can cost over $1,500. Most museum visitors are impressed with such displays, but it’s not the light box they are impressed with, it’s the amazing look of the photograph.Even backlit signage can cost $400 for a lightbox as small as 18”x30”. Custom back lit photos have never been available to the public at a price they can afford.  People who have seen backlit photos and are told they could have one with their own favorite photo want one or two.

Photo Process

-How it's done-

 Our technicians enlarge your photo, then color correct it, remove red eye and touch up any blemishes. Then using a special process we print your photo on plastic back lit media. It is then mounted on a beautiful solid wooden lightbox and frame in your choice of 4 hardwoods.

 We can turn any photo into an amazing work of art:
  - digital files JPEG (TIFF, PSD preferred)
  - printed photos (except instant cameras)
  - slides / negatives

Two ways to order!

Picture it Lit® can be puchased in two different ways.  One is with your custom photo in it, or with a gift certificate that can be redeemed by the recipient with their favorite photo.

1) Pick out your wood of choice, place yor order/send payment, then E-mail or mail us the photo you want turned into a Picture it Lit®.  In two to four weeks you will recieve your Picture it Lit® with your photo mounted on it.

2)Pick out your wood of choice, order Picture it Lit® with a gift certificate.  In two to four weeks you will recieve your Picture it Lit®.  The recipient can redeem the gift certificate.  Usually takes 5-7 days.
